Sweden has a long standing tradition of glassblowing. Personally, I love glass and I don't think there is such a thing as too much glass. Lucky for us not only did we find glass but the furnace was hot and working. We just had to stay and watch. It was totally mesmerizing. The furnace is 1200 degrees C.

The pole sits in the oven getting hot and ready to put a blob of sand on it. Excuse me because this isn't a technical term. It is my own homegrown interpretation of things.

The pole is constantly in motion as the glass maker turns and bends the molten sand.

What was this fine artist making? Why this of course. Isn't it beautiful?

The process of glassmaking fascinates me, too. How could you resist buying a treasure. Right from the artist!

We didn’t have the time to stop at a glass factory when we drove through that area this summer, which was disappointing. But when we got home, we watched the film My Life As a Dog again, and we were charmed to see that much of it was filmed in Smaland, and there were many scenes in the glass factory where Ingemar’s uncle worked. So we got a little fix there.
I would have loved to have bought some hand-blown glass, though!

It’s unbelievable when the process of making a glass is blowing the pre-glass just like a baloon. How hot that is !
